BARCELONA legend, Johan Cruyff has been discussing the Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate, and remarked that while he felt the Portuguese has many qualities, Messi possess a greater variety to his game.
The Dutchman was speaking in an interview with France Football, and felt that the diminutive figure of the Argentine gives him an advantage when compared to Ronaldo’s powerful physique.
He commented, “Messi’s play, change of pace, and positional sense are naturally faster. For Ronaldo, this is impossible. It is not a question of one being better or worse than the other, it is a matter of size.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is capable of doing many interesting things with power, but lacks the variety of Messi, who can do a number of things at any time.”
Cruyff also once again stated that the selection of three Barca players, Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi, for the Ballon d’Or award suggests that the club are approaching the game correctly.
He said, “Football is played with the feet, and the ball must not leave the ground. The Ballon d’Or candidates show that qualities such as technical intelligence can prevail over physical force.”
